So, I was wondering if anyone else had noticed the sudden surge in celebrity deaths this year....
If you ask me it's getting kind of creepy. For about a week long span, at least one celebrity died every day. That was last month I believe. I find it very odd due to the fact that the population of celebrities is only in the hundreds, the odds are just way too low. There is an actual wikipedia page about this. In all honesty, I am most certainly not implying anything, I just find it a little odd, and frankly a bit creepy. It's really not normal.
Bah, as my closing statement, I would like to say that I blame kira. http://dothackportal.com/forums/images/smilies2/tongue.png

strange. i thought i was the only one who noticed that. and i would blame it on kira if i could(damn u light yagami XD). i hav this really scary theory that mayb celebs are dying off becuz the end of the world is coming. i don't believe in god but just to make it sound clearer he could b taking the souls of important ppl so they won't hav to experience the apocalypse. its a stupid theory but an understandable one.

Personally, I do believe that the end of the world is very near. I wont get into my personal end-time profit babel unless you would like to hear it, which I doubt, most people think that I'm crazy for it.

I see a bit of a flaw in your theory. Assuming that there is a god, and he is taking people's souls so that they will not have to experience the end, wouldn't he be simply taking the pure of hear tor the innocent? Most celebrities are corrupt. I am not saying that all of them that died were horrible people or anything like that, but They sure as hell weren't meek, or innocent. In fact, most of them had a good scandal or two under their belts.
In truth, there is no way to say fr sure weather your theory is correct or not, it's just a common conception that god (if there is one) is all about justice, and benevolence. I would just assume that he would spare the innocent, meek, and pure of heart far before he would spare the far from perfect celebrities. (Fara Fosset granted lol)

I'm not too sure what is going on. But I am sure that something is happening. If something happens three times in a row, it is a coincidence. But. If something happens five times or more in a row, it is a conspiracy. That is what the dictionary says.

Well to be technical, there was a statistic that revealed so many deaths occurred per day and so many births occurred per day. If anyone has paid attention to history, you will remember that there was the "baby boom", where there was a sudden rise in births. Well it is about the usual time where those babies are now at the peak of their life and must pass on. I think that the sudden rise in celebrity deaths are an indirect result from the baby boom. What I mean is that like the baby boom, there will be a sudden rise in deaths until each are at a normal average. It's just a coincidence that they happen to be celebrities because the news does not care about the unpopular, so you will never hear about the deaths of other people, unless the deaths include (whether the victim or the cause of a victim's death):
some freak accident (mostly local media, but can be national)
terrorist attacks, such as the 9/11 incident (national or world media)
drunk drivers (local or regional media)
Major shoot out (local media typcially)
death of a major figure (President, Governor, General of a military branch, etc) other than a celebrity. (local, regional, national, world medias, depending on the figure and how the death happened)
Celebrities will always be favored in the media, and so you will hear more about their deaths than the other deaths in the world.

By the way, loved the Death Note reference (Kira).

well.. i think its just because celebrities get coverage because lots of people die. i live in england and i haven't heard of anything like this so maybe its just america?? and the theory that their souls are being saved and the end of the world is near.. well the whole point of some religious ideas about life after death is that the soul stays in limbo and all souls are judged on the last day (when the world as we know it ends) so if this were ever true they would still be judged anyway regardless of when they died. Also everyone is supposed to be equal so why would this only concern celebrities? and then the question comes in about animals, who says that humans are superior to them?

still.. there is this true story and i am not saying anything by it but.. a woman had a child which died from cot death, then she had another and that died from cot death, then she had another and that one died from cot death as well. people believed that one was unlucky, two were a coincidence and three were murder. i think in the end she was cleared so lets not jump to any conclusions.

I just found it a bit odd. In all honesty I have a rather good idea of how many people die and are born everyday. The soul reason why I feel like there is something odd about this celebrity thing, is because of the very low population of celebrities. In all honesty I hadn't taken the Baby boom into consideration. Thinking about it in that way seems to make it make a little bit more seance. Still, none the less, I can't help but to feel as though something is a tad bit off. Maybe I'm just jumping to conclusions, maybe I'm a bit delusional. lol XP

like i said my theory was stupid and hard to explain. but all i really want to say is that we're hurdling towards something. it could b some kind of apocalypse or some kind of enlightenment or just something big. if 2012 is really the year of the apocalypse....well then that sux for me cuz thats the year i graduate XD

Well, no doubt that the end of the world is near, but I don't think anyone can say for sure that it will absolutely be 2012. No one can predict when someone dies, so there is no way anyone can predict when the world will end, except for your religious figure/figures, if any for your religious views. For the Christian side, psychic phenomenon is heresy, so saying that the world will end in 2012 could be considered "heresy" under the claims of a psychic. In the old days, science was a heresy to Catholics. People will always have their views and can always predict that it may be 2012, but they cannot claim that 2012 will be the year that the world ends. Anyone who claims that 2012 is the year that the world ends, is full of themselves and is out to scare the ignorant population, which is generally 80% (give or take a few percentages) of the world.
Ghost, you are not delusional for thinking celebrities dying all of a sudden is a bit odd, creepy, etc. It was just a thought, and it started a good discussion to have. We learn interesting points.

My step-dad was a 7th Day Adventist (Christian, I do believe) and recently changed to Baptist (Christian). He claims, through the bible, that the end is near. But he never claims there is an approximate date. One of the key points he mentioned was when "Man controls time". Those who live in the United States, if you recall when congress passed a bill to move Daylight Savings to an earlier date (later, Microsoft released a patch for XP to adjust for the new daylight savings date). Notice the earlier point coincides with Congress controlling time, by moving the date we observe daylight savings. That was just one point though. I don't remember his other two points he quoted from the bible, and the points in history that have happened where it matches to the points in the bible.
That is just one theory (and a Christian one at that). If another religion has those points in their religious book, then there must be some truth to it. But again, a date was never specified. So take it or leave it, it is just another idea with a good point.

yeah I agree that its a good idea. However I don't think it'll happen so soon, 2012 is only three years away and then there would be the question of what exactly the end of the world is meant to be. The only thing i can think of right now (and its late) is the sun expanding and i dont think that is going to happen in three years. Also there is no way we control time, yes we alter how we record time but we cannot alter when the sun comes up in the morning and the days that pass. This question is interesting because it delves into places that remain unexplored, which haven't been discovered because no one on this planet has lived through anything of this magnitude.

Still there are possible things that can 'go wrong'. There's all this debate about global warming and its effects. Then there's the idea of super volcanoes, meteors and such. Considering most of this stuff is beyond our control is there even any reason to spend time fearing it? whatever comes will come and i don't think there's anything we can do about it.

also my 'h' key isn't working well so if theres spelling mistakes in this that is probably why.

While I am aware that many have died, I don't know exactly who and why. Does you know more?

Michael Jackson - I don't remember why

Heath Ledger - Ditto

Bernie Mac - Pneumonia (If I remember correctly)

By the way, why not create a thread where you discuss the fall of man aka armageddon. It seems like that would be a lively topic http://dothackportal.com/forums/images/smilies2/wink.png

wow..

from death of celebrities to end of world...

didnt know the topic would go that far http://dothackportal.com/forums/images/smilies2/smile.png

my opinion is the same with vashnik..
everyday a lot of people die
it just so happen that deaths of popular people get advertised

and i dont think that 2012 is the end of the world

well there are signs which are seen these days..
signs which were told in the Bible, Book of Revelations to be exact
but still we cant predict when the world is going to end

oh, btw, Vashnik, im also a Baptist http://dothackportal.com/forums/images/smilies2/wink.png

I think Michael Jackson died from a heart attack. He was getting up there in the years. But I don't listen to the news when it comes to celebrities. So I don't know what the official autopsy report was.
Never heard anything about Heath Ledger (I usually find out this stuff by my step-sister's gossip, or through my step-dad who listens to the radio while he goes to work or while he delivers products), same for Bernie Mac.
Farrah Fawcett died from Cancer (only knew that from that stupid 1 hr "The Life And Death of Michael Jackson" show that took the place of The Mentalist on CBS. I'm still bitter about that. Farrah Fawcett only got like 5 minutes during the entire thing).

World ending in 2100 sounds more believable, but still unprovable. People make me sick when they think they can make money off some rubbish about when the world will end. Its like that Global Warming scam. They make money off of it, push it onto other people, and when they make their money they're no where to be found for questions about the subject. Go figure.

Don't worry Eraga, I'm not a religious pusher like other baptists you might have met, even some of the other Christian faiths do it. Those happen to be the Religious Zealots. I happen to accept other people no matter what religion they believe in. I have a friend thats Atheist. You think that's bad, try being a Christian and having another one tell you that you're going to hell. Now thats a laugh. They even try to push those small New Testament bibles on me, usually Black or Orange (around here at least). I just laugh simply laugh at them. My uncle, however, was a trickster in college and played a prank on them and said he (my uncle) was a Catholic Jew and kept walking with a straight face. It kept them quiet until they realized what my uncle said, but by then he was gone.

Several of my friends and I blamed Kira. But even if that isn't the reason, I don't believe it's the end of the world. I don't have my doomsday device ready yet! You have to give me some more time! Between Chemistry, Spanish, and College English to name a few, I don't have that much time to tinker in the workshop these days. Oh, and my girlfriend. She's always on my mind, so I just can't think about world ending.

But since it's celebrity deaths and not end of the world, let me just say that the only one left who needs to die is the Sham-Wow guy. Please Kira, kill him! He is way too enthusiastic about rectangular pieces of absorbant cloth! He must be punished!
