View Full Version : Crying for the Unknown

I was wondering if anyone ever cries for those people they hear about, but never see. Examples, I guess, would be like the soldiers overseas, a friends loss, the commercials about kids in third-world countries... that sort of thing.
My experience is probably unique. I didn't know I had a brother until I was about eleven. I found out from my grandma... and she said it like I had known. She was shocked when I flipped my lid. Took my mom to court and had my custody transferred to my dad. Reveled in my moms tears.
From then on it was a countdown until I could meet him. Mom said she didn't tell me because I wouldn't understand. I was disgusted by her. When I reached 17, I had a car, and had the ability to see him. And that's when it happened. He died. We went to the funeral, but it was closed-casket. We were half-brothers and his dad had ordered it. I could have dropped the man. In the end, I watched the halls while my step-father broke open the casket so mom could see him. So even in the end I never saw him. I cried a lot. Mom would get angry, saying she didn't see how I could cry for someone I didn't know.

Wow. That's a fascinating story.
I'm sorry you never got the chance to meet him.
I'm a very sensitive person, especially when it comes to my friends. If they're hurt, I'm twice as hurt. It's insane but true, everytime my friends are in trouble, or everytime they're sad, I get sad too.
And yeah, whenever I hear something sad, no matter who or what it's about, I get sad. Not just a little teary, I get depressed for a long time, depending on the circumstances. It sucks.

This is embarrassing to say but when I was 5 years old I cried alot 4 the people who would die on the news! So i think it might be common in some people and I'm really sorry!

That's not embarrassing. I don't cry for everyone that dies who I don't know, but there is a sickening feeling when people die, such as in the war, at a life lost and a possible future coming to an end. All the potential that person once had has come to an end. I guess around this time the feelings are more prevalent, because it is traditionally where families and friends meet up.
Its pretty normal to hurt as much as your friends when they're upset. It shows you're a true friend who really cares. Those close friendships are very precious.

I guess, but it really affects me, too much.
It's not just worrying, it's as if it's happening to me too. Crazy.

Yeah. When my friends are insulted, it insults me too. Just like when they are feeling down and out. :o
For the people I don't know, I wonder sometimes... for someone with a pretty solid grasp on my religious beliefs, I have to question why it was their time to go. Like, if they had known me or even been friends, they wouldn't have died. http://dothackportal.com/forums/images/smilies2/frown.png

Yeah. I've known a lot of people that have died, and I still can't "accept" it.
It's hard to deal with death. Probably the hardest thing ever. I keep asking myself questins like "What if?", knowing that it's not going to change anything.

I rarely care about anything for anyone, ok ever heard of a program in england called, well can't remember but something along the lines of britians weather or whatever, watched it a few times, bottom line it's a load of bull, but there was this one part where there was a flood which was pretty bad for the uk but anywho, there was a flood, lots of damage, a few wounded but this one guy trying to get away fell under the water into a man-hole but climbed out, kinda his foot got stuck, tons of people tried pulling him free and fire sevies and recuse serives failed to help in all ways, this guy knew he was going to die and told everyone to stop, they respected that but kept his head above the water as long as they could while the water was still raise'in in that time he phoned his family friends everyone he knew and loved and said good bye,

I don't remember seeing that, but there were floods somewhere, I think last year in those massive floods (near oxford?), where part of a house was swept away, and the bed was just hanging out of the top floor. Then, as the news people were filming it, the rest of the house fell down and got swept away. You kind of have to feel for people who have lost everything in a way like that..

In the US, during hurricane Katrina, it was weird how the news would broadcast people stealing stuff instead of showing how much aid New Orleans needed. and EVERYONE failed those people. Was messed up how many promises were made to those affected, and got nothing.

mine are stupid reality shows for the most part lol XD
Meh ofcourse it's sad if someone dies and whatnot.. But really.. if there would be a school massacre, gang wars or such like in US.. I wouldn't feel anything towards it.. Not the slightest bit bad nor sad.. Rather i wouldn't care for it at all.. I care for the once i want to care about.. and i feel no sympathy for those i don't want/care to feel sympathy for.. I care for friends and family.. nothing more.. nothing less..
I even found that columbine, or whatever the school massacre was called, to be pretty cool..
Sick ain't i? http://dothackportal.com/forums/images/smilies2/wink.png

I actually agree with a lot of this. Stuff happens, end of story. It doesn't have any effect on me at all. However, "mass tragedies" do not make me happy either. I guess since it has nothing to do with me or any of the people I know and like, I just don't care, so I'm unconcerned. I know that's really selfish but that's how I am.

Meeeep.... I don't cry over it. Not worth crying over stuff that doesn't matter to me... I have to REALLY care to cry over something I know nothing about.
