View Full Version : The Decline of Youth Morality

I don't know if this belongs in the debates section or not, so forgive me.
Am I the only one who thinks that morality in the following generations is scarce? I was walking down the freshman hall yesterday and I couldn't count the conversations talking about drugs, drinking, partying, fights, and sex. I think there was one conversation about homework, but I'm not sure.
My buddie Andy called the freshman class "a bunch of sluts and drinkers" in a paper he wrote. I always have to chirp in "and stoners too" when we talk about it.
It's not just in talk and action. The way they carry themselves as well. Half the girls actually try to act like whores. And all the boys want to be gangbangers with their pants around their ankles. I want to see one of them run from the cops and trip because of it. And they always think they're smarter than anyone else. When a girl thinks that because I weigh more than she does I'm fat, when she's rather chubby and I'm muscular, I can't help but laugh.
They think they can beat anyone in a fight too. I put a group of seven of them down single-handedly without much effort. (I've got reflexes and training but still, you think they'd use some amount of strategy with superior numbers on their side.) Then they tried to blame the fight on me, though they challenged me and actually tried to hit me first. I had a few people with me to testify on my behalf, so I got off scott free. http://dothackportal.com/forums/images/smilies2/smile.png
And finally, they think that they're the ones who deserve respect. I... I can't even think of anything to type as an anecdote, I've got such a headache thinking about it. And to think that these fools will be running our countries one day.
My dad always says "we'll always need ditch-diggers." Well, I think the market for a hole isn't that great. As a result we'll have to pay taxes to support their asses, since they won't amount to anything in life without shaping up first.
It's so frustrating just thinking of them...

I fully agree with you Mourn. This world is rotting.
I have grown so tired of seeing girls garbed in nary a thread of clothing and boys hiding in their over-sized shirts and pants. It's ridiculous. These days, humans have no tact, strategy, or skill. If I were lacking in those departments, I am sure that my face would be covered in scars. All through out my life time I have been bullied, made fun of, and threatened just because of my feminine face. The well-being of my face has been threatened many times before with everything from blades to red-hot metal. Where is the justice in this world?
Looking back at the eighteen hundreds, one would have never guess that the world would turn out the way that it has. the youth these days are lacking so many things that were second nature. Independence, respect for ones elders, obedience, self respect. The list never ends!
I just can't seem to figure out why these children aren't taking care of themselves. The wont allow themselves to learn, they can't stand authority, and their arrogance is sickening.
Most people may regard this as pathetic and stupid, but those humans are half of the reason why i dropped out of school. How is it that a drop-out is typing this message, when most that are still in school either wouldn't be able to, or would HIGHLY disagree with my opinion? Wow. I really hate humans.
Well Mourn, it looks like you and I have a little bit in common.

I can agree with ya also. I see all the time where ever I go school or at my neigborhood. To me, I always thought it had to do something with the music, Rap specifically because of its lyrics which most were about sex, cars, girls, etc.... Though that is not all rap like. One can blame on the parent if there always working and not for their child, from where I live that is what it seems, even worse is when parents shows the kids to this. gotta finsh later leaving class

Well, for someone such as myself, who believes morality is non-existant, this thread is just like *headdesk*.
I fully agree with you Mourn. This world is rotting.
I'm going to quote a character from a film "When was the last time the world wasn't falling apart?" (DiCaprio as Danny Archer in Blood Diamond). It's a ###### world, always has been, always will be.

That I agree with you on, there seem to be a lot of skanks and wansters out there. I personally like my jeans baggy, but I've also heard of the wonderful invention of the belt.
Where is the justice in this world?
Justice is a matter of perspective. That's as far as I'm going on this.
Looking back at the eighteen hundreds, one would have never guess that the world would turn out the way that it has. the youth these days are lacking so many things that were second nature. Independence, respect for ones elders, obedience, self respect.
I never understood the 'respect for your elders' thing. Whatever happened to respect being earned, not given? There are plenty of moronic adults out there. Obedience? Because people thing it's cool to ba an ###.

Lol, I see now. If you were offended to any degree, I apologize for my banter. >< But knowing that you are moral Nihilist helps me understand your point of view better. Also on a side note, I posted in your thread "Philosophy" and I would be interested in hearing your views on the matter. X3 I'm interested in your reasoning behind your belief, and how you think. X3 I just like learning everything that I can, I find humans very interesting, but at the same time repulsive. ><
I'm going to quote a character from a film "When was the last time the world wasn't falling apart?" (DiCaprio as Danny Archer in Blood Diamond). It's a ###### world, always has been, always will be.
I would have to agree with that statement, but only to a degree. I really feel like the world has taken a turn for the worst in the last decade or so. Even though I also feel as though morality is in the eye of the beholder, I do carry through a bit of that vanity in feeling as though I am right. I am also a very strong believe in the 2012 theory, only in a different way then you may think. I believe that 2012 is the beginning of the end.
That I agree with you on, there seem to be a lot of skanks and wansters out there. I personally like my jeans baggy, but I've also heard of the wonderful invention of the belt.
You get a *ucking gold star for life for the fact that you know what the *uck a belt is! You win sir, you win!
Justice is a matter of perspective. That's as far as I'm going on this.
I also agree that justice is subjective, but as I said before, I also carry through some of that wonderful vanity in feeling that my brand of justice is correct even though it may seem a little corrupt and barbaric. I'm really an eye for an eye kind of person. Sure, it can leave the whole world blind, but hey, maybe they will have learned something.lol.
I never understood the 'respect for your elders' thing. Whatever happened to respect being earned, not given? There are plenty of moronic adults out there. Obedience? Because people thing it's cool to ba an ###. What I mean by that is people shutting the hell up and listening to what their teachers have to say. When I was in school, I noticed that the majority of the students didn't know how to shut their mouths. Also on that note, I believe that everyone should have at least a small amount of respect for their elders just in the subject of listening to their advice once in a while and not go out of their way to be a *ick.
I despise authority, absolutely hate it. As for the arrogance, yes, pretty true.
I kind of understand your view on authority because I don't like it thaat much either, but it's just one of those things that I've learned to deal with. When I was younger not dealing with it got me into a LOT of trouble, and I realized that I didn't like being punished too much, so I tend to just stay away from situations in which I would have to deal with an authority figure. I guess I'm a bit of a hypocrite.
Literally? As in misanthropic?
Yeah. It's just the way that I have always thought. I hate them, and I find them repulsive. When ever I meet someone, I always start off disliking them just because they are human and thus flawed. I have a great distrust, hatred, and disgust for humans. They make me physically sick. Not to mention my mild fear of them, but you have to understand the type of fear. It's the same type of fear that I have for bugs. I find them disgusting and I don't want them to touch, or speak to me. That's why I can thrive online, because I don't have to hear a voice or see a human. The only humans that I suffer are either over the internet, or the few people that have wormed their way into my heart.

Heehee a thread about morality, it's already getting interesting! Regarding the way some people dress, I do not care what they look like. If they want to look good, fine. If they prefer to look like an idiot, that's their problem not mine lol. I myself am not a big fan of morality considering I never do the "right thing" anyway. I usually do what seems the most enjoyable or beneficial to achieving my own goals. I do not think any less of people who are moral, unless they're the kind that preach their moral beliefs and try to force them onto other people who disagree/don't care. That is one of the things I hate most! Authority and obedience seem like they are nothing more than tools for controlling people and getting them to conform to whatever "public standard" in question. Self respect and independence are two things I really do believe in. If you don't respect yourself nobody else will either. I like independence too because I absolutely HATE relying on anybody else for anything. I work alone, I've never been a team-player. To me the greatest shame I could ever face would be having to ask somebody for help with something. I just can't bring myself to do it!
I'm not sure if honestly I dislike people or not. I think I might but that's probably a result of my extreme arrogance. Most people I encounter irritate me. The thing is if they seem the least bit interesting, I go out of my way to turn the situation around resulting in me irritating them instead. Depending on their reaction to the situation I then decide whether I like them or not. I've always been a big social failure and proud of it. Most people just want stuff. That's annoying. I'm no different, but when I want something I go out and get it myself. One of the many things I like about MMORPGs is I have many different ways for dealing with the unpleasant people. If somebody approaches you there you just KNOW they want something for nothing. In those situations you can just teleport when you see them approaching, cut the power to your modem to log out really fast, tell them to go away, or my personal favorite, hear them out then turn around and kill them (they usually don't come back after that) XD Too bad those methods cannot be used in the real world.
There are quite a few people that have somehow forced me to like them when I tried SO hard not to LOL. Those are the ones who turn out to be the most fun too! I would never admit to these people I like them as much as I do though. It's just so much more fun to pretend like I don't haha!
On the matter of justice, whatever happened to the good old times when people were expected to go out and get revenge for any wrongs that were done to them? I am a firm believer in vengeance. Vengeance is my personal idea of "Justice". Nothing more, nothing less. It's that simple. I think I've rambled on long enough here, probably going O.T. in a few places too. Sorry LOL!

I like the way you think. Vengeance is something that I value. It's my sense of justice. An eye for an eye.
Apparently you and I think a like, though I am sure that it doesn't look like it. Hahaha.
I am also very prideful, I don't do well with asking for help or excepting it. I can't even except a gift if I feel that it is a pity offering. Being pitied infuriates me.
Also, I don't think that you rambled for too long. I prefer long responses. But then again, I'm kind of a freak.

Hm, maybe so. It does seem sort of accelerated. What I mean by that, is the general apathy/cynicism is growing now at an extreme rate. I have to admit, I possess both of those traits, I'm a cynic and mostly apathetic when it comes to others, or anything in general. And example would be the 2012 thing. I don't know the particulars of your views, but the general thought of an Apocalypse doesn't matter to me. I mean, whether or not I care isn't going to change anything.
Not to mention people, at least in my experiance, are quite pleased when they put people down, the sadistic persons.
You get a *ucking gold star for life for the fact that you know what the *uck a belt is! You win sir, you win!
I am completely unable to tell if that's sarcasm or not, lol.
Most people, whether consciously or unconsciously believe their views are correct. I understand the eye-for-an-eye thing, 'cause I'm somewhat a believer in that. I mean, if someone ####s over me or someone I actually care about (drawing a blank at the moment), I'd get back at them. No doubt.
I hate school and the idiots in it. Just felt like putting that out there.
I'll admit, I rag on people in school, or just say generally ###hole like comments. Otherwise, if I stayed quiet, school would be a living hell. Literally.
I've had some complete morons as teachers before. I mean, my English teacher last year acted like an idiot. I had almost zero respect for him.
I respect a lot of those people that are older than me, because they've experianced a hell of a lot more than I have. But I, as unfortunate as it is, judge people pretty quickly, so it usually doesn't last.
On the authority issue, I'm going to give an example of something. I'm somewhat of an anarchist. I hate government, despise being controlled. But I'm not so much of an idealist that I'd take action agianst an establishment, and then not reinstate another form of government. Otherwise there'd be chaos.
What I'm trying to get at is, even though I strongly detest authority, I realize it has to exist. I apologize if that rant made no sense.
Yeah. It's just the way that I have always thought. I hate them, and I find them repulsive. When ever I meet someone, I always start off disliking them just because they are human and thus flawed. I have a great distrust, hatred, and disgust for humans.
I'm with you on that, actually.
They make me physically sick. Not to mention my mild fear of them, but you have to understand the type of fear. It's the same type of fear that I have for bugs. Interesting to know.
Regarding the way some people dress, I do not care what they look like. If they want to look good, fine. If they prefer to look like an idiot, that's their problem not mine lol.
Exactly.
I myself am not a big fan of morality considering I never do the "right thing" anyway. I usually do what seems the most enjoyable or beneficial to achieving my own goals.
"Right and wrong" (which, again, I don't believe exist) is a matter of perspective. What I consider 'right', you may consider 'wrong'. As for the enjoyable/beneficial part, that's pretty much how I am.
Authority and obedience seem like they are nothing more than tools for controlling people and getting them to conform to whatever "public standard" in question.
This. This this this this this. Exactly what I believe. But, they are necessary, otherwise, as I stated earlier in this post, there would be chaos.
What people call 'morality', in my opinion, is just another way to control the masses.
Most people just want stuff.
^^
One who believes that human conduct is motivated wholly by self-interest
Definition of a cynic, lol.
Sorry LOL!
Vengeance in some cases, yes, but people must be able to restrain themselves in certain situations, otherwise they're going to screw themselves over. Especially in the modern world.
Doing your justice won't always do others, so watch what you do. Or end up with more harsh consequence then the rewards.
Revenge/Vengeance is purely selfish. So of course it wouldn't do others justice. That's not the point.
well at least you hav ppl who are different. where i'm from, the people are all robots and christian cults. the only reason anyone does anything is becuz its wat everyone else does. that, or someone puts god or jesus into the picture and they get into it. if you do anything different or out of order they will think you're crazy. its so ridiculous! and wats even worse is that there's a huge group of students in their own little bubble and even their PARENTS are in that bubble. these kids have been stepbrothers/sisters with each other at least once and hav dated each other! it makes me sick! i absolutely hate it here! ppl think i'm atheist and constantly tell me i'm going to hell just becuz i said i don't believe in the bible(i would've said i don't believe in god but then they would try to exorcize me and throw salt on me). and when i hang out with my boyfriend they take pictures and criticize who i pick to date and ask me if he believes in god and they think i'm going to break up with him cuz he does. i don't even kno them! This is what i see:
The younger years at my school don't really show much respect for us, but then neither did we for the sixth form we were yr9 or whatever. So yeah, maybe those younger want to prove to you that they are equal very obviously. However you still get the people who are scared of sixth form because we're all 16-18 and get to wear our own clothes, its just you notice them less because they stear clear of you.
What annoys me more is when the older generation walk around as though they are more important, and they do things like when you walk on a street and they don't move at all, they keep walking straight and you have to move a lot.. for example once they didn't move so to avoid a collision i had to move to the side.. apart from there was a fence there so i knocked into the fence and them into me. the other option was a busy road.. it sounds petty but hey its annoying!
anyway these people will mature - otherwise they won't pass exams and get those high up jobs.

I didn't anticipate how deep this thread would become. I'm "pleasantly suprised" as it were.
I too believe in vengance. Hamurabbi's Code, (which I butchered in spelling) the laws of ancient Babylon, was a great way to discourage any sort of harmful or negative behavior/actions.
As for showing respect to elders, I am the kind of man (or boy, somewhere in there http://dothackportal.com/forums/images/smilies2/tongue.png) who moves to the side and slightly bows/bobs his head in greeting. I don't really like to open my mouth, you know? I give respect until it becomes clear that they are neither worthy nor deserving of it. Then I act quite superior. There is no equal. http://dothackportal.com/forums/images/smilies2/tongue.png
And to Purplepeanutbutter (which still sounds rather appitising...) I agree with you to a point. They will mature to a degree. However, it seems to be, in my experience, a 50/50 shot when it comes to maturing and going along the right path like that. The other 50% grow up to be stupid adults who don't act any different than they did. They're just more assinine than before. But what really pisses me off are the ones who, under normal circumstances, would never amount to anything in life. The ones with rich parents who will support them indefinitely. I really hate them.

vengeance and revenge seems pretty drastic - and most of the time you get into trouble and get the blame. I think its better not to drop to their level and believe in karma, or just forget about it!
The are a few people who get completely supported by their parents at my school, and its slightly annoying, but I would personally prefer to be learn things and work hard and get good grades. Feeling too dependent annoys me! It also feels good to achieve something yourself.. ok this is getting a bit off subject!

Couldn't agree more with you, Mourn. This is exactly what's bothering me at the moment. It's so frustrating to see how people are nowadays. I'm not saying that they were perfect in the past, there have been and will always be fools - but they're definitely increasing.
Drugs, irresponsible drinking and bad attitudes. I hate them all. And I don't see how these actions can be so dominating, popular and 'respected'. It's pathetic.

Yet my point was that you shouldn't drop to the level of others who are in question, not because of society but because of your own morals. If you feel psychologically, that you are on a higher moral level than someone then it feels a lot better and you'll probably spend less time regretting past mistakes in the future.

V for Vendetta my favorite movie, and since recently when I got to read the comic, my favorite comic too. It's almost more dang useful than a Bible in these days! I believe that is what the US is going to be soon. All because the patriots are going to start throwing their weight around and MAKE the America the way it was invisioned (or some such bologna).
Reason I never conformed in school was because I didn't believe in being someone else. Though when I look at myself, I try so hard to be someone other than everyone else(*facepalm*). When I get my degree I'm probably moving to Japan. At least honor and dignity means something there. Heck, houses in the country don't even have doors with locks! I'm a computer guy, so I got the whole paranoid thing going on in the IT field, but not that much. Japan and USA are like two sides of a coin, Complete different, but still on the same planet. http://dothackportal.com/forums/images/smilies2/confused.png
